SIMPLE PAST TENSE - REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS - PART 2

IRREGULAR VERBS
Verbos Irregulares:

Exemplo:

Presente                      Passado

To do                          did
To buy                        bought
To see                         saw

Exemplo:

Mary bought a  car  yesterday.

Na forma negativa usamos o auxiliar DID.

Exemplo: Mary didn't buy a car yesterday.

Exemplo: Did Mary buy a car yesterday?

SIMPLE PAST TENSE - REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS - PART 1

Ex.:

to play             -           played

to talk             -           talked

to traveI          -           traveled

Observe os exemplos abaixo:

Susan played the piano last night.
They talked to me about their problem yesterday.
He traveled to New York last week.

=> Regras para o acréscimo do "ED":

1 - Regra geral:

Acrescentamos ".D" ou "ED" ao verbo:

a) Verbos terminados em "E" acrescentamos apenas" - D":

Ex.:

To invite         -           invited

To like             -           liked

b) Outras terminações acrescentamos "-ED":

To work          -           worked

To want          -           wanted

2 - Verbos terminados ern"y" precedido de consoante troca-se o "y" por "i" e acrescenta-se "ed”:

Ex.:

To study         -           studied

To cry             -           cried

To play            -           played

To stay            -           stayed

3 - Verbos terminados em consoante + vogal  + consooante

Dobra-se a última consoante antes do acréscimo de "-ED":

To stop            -           stopped

* Veja a observação abaixo:

            Some years ago
Qne week ago

Exercícios: Traduza as frases abaixo:

1 - They closed the door ofthis room a few minutes ago.
__________________________________________________

2. Mr. Higgins waited for vou yesterday aftemoon.
__________________________________________________

3 - She cleaned the house for me yesterday moming.
__________________________________________________

4 - He missed two classes last week.
__________________________________________________

5 - She typed these exercises for Helen yesterday.
__________________________________________________

6 - He invited me to a party last week.
__________________________________________________

FORMA INTERROGATIV A:

Como já aprendemos anteriormente, para fazermos a FORMA INTERROGATIVA necessitamos de um verbo auxiliar, quando o verbo da sentença não for um verbo anômalo (verbo "to be", can, etc.)

No caso do Passado Simples o verbo auxiliar é "DID". Ele é colocado antes do sujeito em todas as pessoas. O verbo principal retoma à sua forma original.

Ex.:

Forma afirmativa:       He telephoned Albert yesterday evening.
Forma interrogative:   Did he telephone Albert yesterday evening?

I - Did you finish your exercise yesterday?
Trad.:             ________________________________________
Afirm.:            ________________________________________

2 - Did she arrive at home late?
Trad.:             _________________________________________
Afirm.:            _________________________________________

3 - Did they  try  to fix your TV set last night?
Trad.:             __________________________________________
Afirm.:            __________________________________________

FORMA NEGATIVA:

A forma negativa do Passado Simples é formada colocando-se DID NOT (forma contraída DIDN'T) após o sujeito em todas as pessoas. O verbo principal retoma à forma original sem "ed".

Ex.:

Forma Aftrmativa:     The students disturbed the French class yesterday.
Forma Negativa:         The students did not (didn't) disturb the French class yesterday.

1 - She prepared a sandwich for me.
Int.:      ___________________________________________
Neg.:   ___________________________________________

2 - They visited their friends in Italy last year.
Int.:     ____________________________________________
Neg.:  ____________________________________________

3 - He played soccer with his friends yesterday..
Int.:     _______________________________________________
Neg.:  _______________________________________________

4 - Mary was sick yesterday.
Int.:    _______________________________________________
Neg.:  _______________________________________________

5 - You were at home last Sunday.
Int.:    _______________________________________________
Neg.:  _______________________________________________

Quando nossas respostas são curtas, ou seja, quando respondemos "YES" or "NO", basta usarmos DID ou DIDN'T na resposta.

Ex.:
"Did vou study at this school Last year?
"Yes, l did."                "No, l didn't"

Exercícios:

Usando "short answers" responda as questões abaixo:

1 - Did he wait for me yesterday?
Yes, ______________________.            No, ________________________.

2 - Did they invite Richard to dinner?
Yes, ______________________.            No, ________________________.

3 - Did Mary work last night?
Yes, ______________________.            No, ________________________.

4 - Did you watch the movie last Saturday?
Yes, ______________________.            No, ________________________.

5 - Was she at home last night?
Yes, ______________________.            No, ________________________.

6 - Were you tired yestarday?
Yes, ______________________.            No, ________________________.

"Did vou look for your pen in the classroom?"
Yes, I looked for it in the classroom and in the yard too."

"Did they talk to their father about this problem?"
"No,  they ta1ked to their father about some other problems."

Yesterday
last year
last night
yesterday morning,
ago
one week ago
a long time ago
