The pronunciation of the past suffix "_ed" is a common problem.
There are three situations:

engage - engaged
listen - listened

change - changed
replace - replaced

mention - mentioned
call - called
B) When we have the sound / t /:
When the pronunciation of the infinitive ends with a voiceless consonant, the pronunciation of the “_ed” suffix will be /t/. Ex:
Stop - stopped
work - worked
laugh - laughed
miss - missed
cash - cashed
watch - watched
work - worked
laugh - laughed

cash - cashed
watch - watched
fix - fixed

C) When we have the sound / id /:
When the pronunciation of the infinitive ends with a stop consonant – /d/ or /t/, the pronunciation of the “_ed” suffix will be /id/. Ex:
need - needed
attend - attended
visit - visited
create - created
want - wanted
print - printed
